Britain is famed for its resorts by the seaside featuring kiss-me-quick hats, fast food such as fish and chips, quirky postcards and stag and hen parties. In the previous few decades just the resorts of Brighton and Blackpool have retained their reputation as an increasing number of English families journey to hotter destinations to enjoy their yearly vacation. However a number of resorts in Britain seem to be attempting to to regain their position in the British tourism industry. Within the article which follows I look at Scarborough a popular seaside resort in North Yorkshire.
Scarborough is definitely the oldest seaside resort in England having been talked about in a book which was published during the 1660s, which wrote about the medical advantages of a nearby spa. The spa continues to be existence to this day and it is situated on South Bay. Today named the Scarborough Spa Complex it, in a similar fashion to places, has reinvented itself and today presents quite a lot of entertainment amenities and also offering facilities for weddings and corporate events.
In many ways the resort has cleverly managed to show itself as an excellent mix of the new and the historic. Retaining a lot of its Victorian spa and seaside charm the town currently advertises itself as centre for the creative arts and digital industries. Increasingly more old buildings are being updated and brought bang up to date and even an old style museum is now a specifically designed studio for artists. Further enhancing this modern strategy to tourism now you can have free access to a wi-fi Internet connection all along the harbour’s promenade.
Altogether this daring method has helped to create a wonderful family orientated vacation destination with loads of family friendly visitor attractions including plenty of interesting galleries and museums, parks and gardens, theme parks and a good choice of historic buildings. With a gorgeous coast and great countryside it’s little marvel that the town additionally presents loads of opportunities for sports and the sport of surfing is quickly rising in popularity.
