Top Gold Coast Attractions

A hours drive south of Brisbane will find you Australia’s most popular beach playground, the famous Gold Coast, that stretches for 75 kms. There is also an airport, Gold Coast Airport at Coolangatta (an aboriginal word meaning Place of Good View), which is 25 minutes away from Surfers Paradise. This is the main city of the Gold Coast region and more than lives up to its name with blocks of chic high rise hotels, holiday apartments, a casino, shopping malls and above all 42 kms of golden sandy beaches complete with beach posers.
Paula Stafford, the inventor of the bikini had a lot of influence on the Gold Coast development. The Meter Maids, who wore gold bikinis, and wandered the streets of Surfers Paradise, keeping the parking meters paid for people whose parking meter were about to expire, were the surfers’ mascots. They were the reason that many visitors did not receive a ticket, and they were also a main attraction to the area of Surfers Paradise.
This is a really good vacations spot for all ages. Children like Sea World, Movie World and Dream World, as well as the Australian Outback Spectacular. The Australian Outback Spectacular is a dinner and entertainment experience that includes a horse and cattle show, similar to that of a rodeo.
Getting to these theme parks couldn’t be made any easier by the Gold Coast Tourist Shuttle. This offers door to door transport from hotels. There is also a Surf Side Bus that goes straight to the main theme park precinct at Helensvale/Coomera where all the above theme parks are situated except Sea World. If you are driving, parking is free at all theme parks and there is always plenty of space if you get there early.
