If you want to go on a vacation, the first step is to begin putting aside a few dollars here and there for it. If you have to go into debt to pay for your vacation, you will not enjoy it nearly as much as one for which you have all the money in hand. If you can make some room in your budget for vacation savings, then you can begin to ideas for cheap travel that will make your every dollar stretch its farthest! Here are a few things to think about while planning your special trip:
Saving money for a vacation may not be as difficult as you think. Cut a few daily costs by making your own coffee instead of buying it at the coffee shop or packing a lunch instead of eating out. This savings can quickly add up and you will soon be on your way to a nice vacation!
Choose a time to vacation when hotels and attractions are throwing special deals. There are two times of year when lots of rates drop: September when school is back in session, and after Christmas in the winter months. Fewer people are traveling at these times, so you can find unbelievable deals and generally travel cheaper overall.
Find a place to stay that offers on-site attractions such as a pool, fitness center, or game room. Your family can enjoy some free entertainment and relax there instead of spending lots of money every day.
Cook some of your own meals. Try to find an affordable room that has the added convenience of a kitchen. The cost of eating out is one of the biggest expenses when traveling. So do a little grocery shopping and cook some of your own meals to cut costs. This can be fun for a family or romantic for a couple. You can still choose to eat a few meals at a nice area restaurant, but you can relax knowing that you will not have to fork out a lot of extra money for every single meal.
Take advantage of deals and special offers. After you have chosen a place to vacation, visit websites of the area and do searches for coupons at local attractions. If they have a visitor’s center, check there to find deals. With a little effort, you can usually score great deals on fun activities and attractions.
Spread activities out throughout the entirety of your vacation. Fill in “off days” doing free things. Schedule a game day at your room and order pizza in or chill out at the pool. Most areas have museums or parks that you can visit free of charge. Go cook out at a local park and play volleyball or tennis. These activities can be as fun and enjoyable as the ones you are paying big bucks for!
Just because you are smart with your money does not mean that you have to be a tight-wad on your vacation. While traveling, it is always nice to make room for a few little splurges and treat yourself and your family. But when you come home, have kept within your budget and not gone into debt while traveling, you will be happier and have no regrets, only happy memories!
