Lions Back On Winning Track With CFL Win Over Roughriders

March 21st, 2010 by Ross Everett, under Travel and Leisure. No Comments

The BC Lions may have turned the corner after a disappointing 1-4 start to the CFL season. This past weekend, a clearly motivated Lions team defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 35-20 to improve to 2-4 in CFL play. The Lions first two losses were closely contested affairs, but the previous two had been fairly one sided. The Roughriders dropped to 3-3 in the early going in the CFL season.

Lions defensive end Brent Johnson said that the motivation for this game was simple”his team was just plain sick of losing:

“We were sick of losing. That was our only option – to win tonight. This was the must wins of must wins.”

Johnson led a tenacious Lions defense with three QB sacks. Overall, the BC stop unit combined for five QB sacks and three interceptions in their best performance of the CFL season.

Lions running back Martell Mallett caught one touchdown pass, ran for another and generally made himself a thorn in the side of the Riders defense all night. After the game, he praised the play of his offensive line:

“We just went out there and executed. The offensive line blocked well. I was just hitting the holes. They opened it for me and I got in it.”

BC starting QB Buck Pierce had been hearing some criticism from the Vancouver media suggesting that he lose his starting spot. After the game, he spoke of the team effort in the win:

“I was very proud of our offence tonight. “The way we stayed poised, the way we moved the ball. Running and throwing the ball, we were very good.”

His Saskatchewan counterpart Darian Durrant blamed the loss on his teams lack of execution:

“It was frustrating. B.C. gave us plenty of opportunities to put more points on the board. We just didn’t capitalize.”

Despite the victory, Lions coach Wally Buono realizes that his team still has plenty of work to do:

“We have to play much better football than what we did. I saw the intensity that you need, I see the resilience and I saw some guys make some plays.”

BC now hits the road, traveling to Toronto to play the struggling Argonauts on Thursday. Saskatchewan will host the Hamilton Tiger Cats.

March 20th, 2010 by Thomas Clarke, under Vacations. No Comments

It is easy to imagine yourself on a warm and sunny tropical island, especially during those cold, gloomy days of winter. When winter time comes people tend to get down and feel blue. This is not only unhealthy for their psyche, but it also starts to interfere with there jobs.

Therefore what can be the remedy for those winter blues? It essential needs to be a prompt escape to a warmed and sunny destination. It may represent the beach or an island or in truth anyplace warm and sunny. It should preferably be someplace with sunshine as well as a great deal of water to cool down. Pack your sunscreen as well as your vintage Wayfarer shades and get geared up to unwind and experience a lot of play in the sun. Only remember to sit back on your escape; you do not want to arrive home more spent than when you departed.

A good rule of thumb is to give yourself an extra day when you get back into town, that way you have a full day to acclimate yourself back to normal living. The shock of going back to work and school the day after your back from an awesome vacation can be too much for some people; it can make you feel worse than before you left.

So how do you go about getting this little getaway organized? The first thing you need to do is fire up the old computer and jump online. Expedia is a great place to start. You can quickly book an entire vacation online and save some money in the process. You don’t have to make a million phone calls to see what’s available and you don’t have to check every airline for flight information. You can get the whole thing done without even getting out of your pajamas. About the most difficult part of the process will be deciding where to go and which bathing suit to take along.

The Keys in Florida is one of the many wonderful destinations that will assist you in overcoming your winter blues. Another great destination is Acapulco, Mexico. Where ever you decide to go you want to make sure to remember to pack your sunblock, your skin probably has not seen the sun in a while, therefore you can burn up fairly quickly.

A Career As A Fighter Pilot – All You Need To Know

March 19th, 2010 by Bruce Hogan, under Travel and Leisure. No Comments

Many young people setting out on a career often thinking of becoming a fighter pilot. Quite often though they forget or dont realize just how much work is involved in this type of career. It demands a great deal of dedication and being able to focus on ones’ education. This is the only way the final goal of success can be achieved.

The first decision that has to be made is what military force does one want to enter.

There is a choice of the Air Force or the Marines for example to name a few. No matter what choice is made the individual has to become an Officer first.

The best way to start training for this career is to go into one of the military service training programs. The Coast Guard is a good choice as well as West Point. Two academic subjects are very important and these are Math and the Sciences.

The training is certainly not easy and requires a lot of stamina. It also requires a great deal of further thought as to which military force is going to be the best choice for you.

The marks that are expected from this type of training are high. Oral communication and math have to be around 1050. An average 3.8 must be the overall score.

IF you are thinking of becoming a fighter pilot then you need to start planning early in your education. You will also need a recommendation from a government official just to get into one of the military training programs. Then it?s not certain that you will get chosen for fighter pilot training. You can also join the reserve officers training program. You will also have to be accepted into a training program before the age of 27.

Unfortunately with the wars that have taken place over the last several years this has cause and need for more fighter pilots. Based on this more training facilities are in operation and opening their doors for new students. This requirement however does not lessen the rigid training and standards that must be met. These exist just as they did before.

So it seems logical that for those that truly want to be a fighter pilot to make their plans for the future headed towards this direction. It must be emphasized however, that the preparation and work starts back years before even entering military training. The academic capabilities must be there even to be able to gain entrance into any of the training facilities. It is disappointing for the young person who has not applied themselves to their studies in their high school and college years and find out that this prohibits them in the future from pursuing their dreams of becoming a fighter pilot. It is not something that one can turn the clock back on and it soon becomes a I wish scenario.

Now you can learn to become a helicopter pilot with the #1 flight training course that rivals jeppesen private pilot courses. Visit PrivatePilotDVD.com now.

Canadian Postal Code And Route Mapping

March 18th, 2010 by Adriana Noton, under Travel and Leisure. No Comments

Postal code and route mapping in Canada is a little different from that of the States. In fact, they are undergoing a change in the way they handle their street addresses. One example of this, is in the Burlington area. Most of this area is a part of Rural Route #2 Milton, and Rural Route #6 Milton, and then still Rural Route #3 Campbellville for their mail delivery.

But, while this is true, these areas all still have an address that is a Burlington street address. This fact has caused many to suffer having their mail incorrectly reflect them living in the wrong location. It has made delivery very difficult and confusing. It has also been the cause of loss of access to emergency services. So they decided to change the postal identifier to Burlington so the rural areas will get the same type of mail delivery as everyone else in Burlington.

They began the process of fixing this problem in 2005. Local counselors and Parliament members met with people from the Canada Post and work on a solution to this confusing problem. They had to create brand new postal codes for the rural areas within the Burlington system. Their proposal for their solution did not get approved until 2009.

The postal codes in Canada are managed by the CPC, or the Canada Post Corporation. They provide a link between the codes and their standard Canadian geographic locations to make it easier to use the data. The associations between the standard geographic areas are used for mapping, data retrieval, analysis, or profiling.

The search for solutions to the Canadian postal code problems, led to the development of geocoding. This is a process, that assigns geographic identifiers, or codes, to data records and map features. This allows for data to be linked directly to geography. The intent for postal codes, originally, was to help sort mail quickly and easily, and make delivery more efficient through address verification software.

Within the postal code, are indicators for where the delivery is to be made. This could be to a residential mail box, a super box, or a post office box. Also within the code, are the CPC processing facilities and the delivery installations. The first three code characters indicate the FSA, or forward sortation area. This represents a specific area that lies within a larger geographic region.

You can find maps available from the CPC that will show the organizational area that is represented by an FSA. Letter carrier walk maps, or LCWs, usually found on the internet concerning urban deliveries, provide FSA boundaries in relation to road networks. They can be much more helpful than FSA maps for determining FSA boundaries.

Postal code and route mapping in Canada has undergone a lot of change as they try to improve the efficiency of the whole process. It can really get confusing, and it is very hard to understand without some careful study. Postal codes by themselves are not good enough to get an exact location for the service area of the postal code. But the general area can be located by using the FSA.

The leading retailer for address management software solutions offers a variety of analytic and visualization tools, including address databases, postal code map, address verification, and geocoding software. These innovative location intelligence technologies will contribute extensively to your business optimization.
