When leaving your homeland for a length of time, organise travel insurance for yourself and your family. This may help to put it into perspective: when you’re at home, you can probably rest easy knowing that you have house and contents insurance, medical insurance, vehicle insurance and possibly even life insurance but as soon as you remove yourself from your comfort zone and cross the border, you need to be away that these insurances are often no longer able to cover you. Having travel insurance while you’re away is just like having the same security you have at home, simple as that.

You may encounter many sticky situations while you’re away, particularly in a second or third world country and travel insurance can assist you in most situations. For example, in Africa many countries have inadequate medical facilities and a lack of properly educated medical professionals. Run down transport and dire living conditions are real dangers to consider. There’s the wild life which you need to look out for and of course petty criminals and poverty-stricken pick pockets. With all this in mind, it is not to say that Africa should be avoided. Africa is a beautiful continent and can leave life-changing impressions on those who visit her.

Travel insurance is particularly vital when it comes to the medical treatment you may need. In most cases, the traveller’s life is their most valued possession and when faced with danger they will do anything to survive. There will always be life-threatening dangers and while travelling, in the unlikely event of getting killed or dying, certain actions need to be set into place to prevent your family from falling into debt over your death. In times of illness away from home travel insurance can offer vital support and allows for you to receive as much medical attention as you need.

If your illness is serious, provisions can be made by your travel insurance provider to get you flown home for better professional care and if you are in an accident somewhere that is difficult to access, travel insurance can organise that you are airlifted to safety.

Terms and conditions should supplement your travel insurance. Always be sure to read them in case you end up having to claim. This will pave the way to hassle-free compensation which you stand to lose if you don’t meet the terms and conditions adequately. The claims company has every right to deny you your compensation over the absence of a simple invoice or police report that should have been acquired on the scene. For instance, if you are ill and seeking compensation, you must prove that you have been treated by licensed medical personnel by providing your insurance company with genuine documentation and receipts.

Travel insurance is your most important travel accessory and it is your responsibility to ensure that you have bought a suitable package which you fully understand.

Cheap Airfare and Student Discounts

For the college student finding the money to travel can be somewhat problematic. Anyone who’s been a poor college student know what this is all about but sometimes the opportunity to travel is important enough to override even the most budget conscious of college goers. But with money tight it is important to find cheap airfare and student discounts anytime you do try to travel.

Fortunately the vast majority of airlines do offer discounts for college students. How much the discount is is dependent on the airline and the type of deals they offer. In some instances airlines have been known to discount the student rate up to 70 percent off their normal price.

There are in fact many travel companies that offer discounted airfares and trips aimed at college students. In most cases these packages are not that flexible when it comes to choosing travel dates because the trip is part of a larger package set up just for students. There can be restrictions on round-trips and how many days between departure and return flights as part of these special packages.

Another good place to look are websites that specialize in student travel and discounted airfares. They specialize in one-way destination student airline tickets because many students are looking for this type of deal as they are unsure of when they may be returning. You can find a return trip option on many sites that provide a discount on an open ended schedule. This allows the student the opportunity to choose a return date after they have reached their destination.

Many of these websites are members only for students and they sell only to students who provide a valid student-ID. By becoming a member of this type of travel service one can find even bigger savings on airline tickets. These savings may change from month to month and can be dependent on when and where you wish to travel.

If you are attending college it can pay to know where to find cheap airfare and student discounts. By doing a little research you can easily find travel bargains that meet even the tightest of student budgets.

Review of Visitor Medical Insurance

Travelers often neglect obtaining a visitor insurance policy when travelling abroad. The policies cover necessary medical expenses including hospital care and the cost of filling prescriptions. The cost of coverage in the U.S. can often catch visitors by surprise as it can be very expensive compared to that in other nations. Visitors health insurance offers protection from these costs.

Many benefits are available through visitors medical insurance. Travelers do not usually account for the need of medical attention, and can become financially strained in the event of an emergency. Implementing the use of visitors insurance can provide ease of mind in this important area.

Like other forms of health insurance, visitors health insurance comes in a variety of types, differentiated by cost and coverage. These levels of coverage, and the rates which they entail, vary between companies and their specific coverage options. The basic services, emergency room care, etc., are included in every policy.

Dental injury, hospital room and board and emergency illness are just a few of the areas covered by typical visitor medical insurance. These are basic needs that every visitor should have insurance for. Maybe nothing would go wrong, but if it did, health insurance for visitors can be a life saver.

Additional benefits may be necessary if one is travelling to a less stable area of the world. Coverage for terrorism, for example, can be included in one’s plan. Medical evacuation is another occurrence which may prove to be both unexpected and expensive. Having visitors insurance can truly put one’s mind at ease when traveling abroad.

For those possessed of a truly adventurous spirit, visitors insurance can be obtained that covers sports injuries and even theft, a threat to those who travel in certain nations. Accidental death is also able to be covered. For those with particular needs, visitors insurance is highly flexible.

Even nations which are familiar to the traveler can throw unexpected dangers in their paths. Insurance for visitors mitigates the effects of such events. Purchasing policies for visiting relatives has become popular, as well.

No one enjoys pondering the worst case scenario, but preparation is a priceless task. Having an emergency situation arise without coverage in place is never a good situation in foreign countries. visitor travel insurance protects travelers through coverage for financial and life-saving protection.

American versus Indian Visitor Medical Insurance

November 13th, 2008 by Ray Sondeo, under Vacations. No Comments

by Ray Sondeo

The United States has a much more advanced visitor medical insurance system than many other countries. The companies and the policies themselves offer relevant benefits that Americans expect in a health insurance policy.

Most American visitor health insurance companies have been around for a substantial amount of time. They earn letter ratings based upon the financial viability of the company. Meanwhile, foreign insurance companies may be relatively new and carry no independent ratings. Another problem is that many U.S. providers are unfamiliar with the foreign insurance provided.

American visitors insurance policies are connected to a PPO network. PPO is a preferred provider organization, and it is a network of contract hospitals, doctors and providers. This network allows providers to be billed directly. In other countries, insurance companies may promise that the insurance policy will be accepted everywhere. Whether or not hospitals and doctors choose to accept it is another matter entirely. Without accountability, one takes a risk with foreign insurance companies.

American based visitors medical insurance companies provide customers with an insurance card. This card is generally the first thing that doctors’ offices ask for upon admission. Foreign based visitor insurance providers may not give customers an insurance card. Therefore, most will not be willing to bill this company, especially if it is overseas.

Customers also have the choice of a ‘fixed rate’ or ‘comprehensive’ plan through American insurance companies. Foreign companies enforce strict age restrictions, and may refuse to cover anyone over the age of 70. The lack of legal regulation of insurance companies overseas prevents transparency and equitable coverages.

Grievances may be filed with insurance regulatory committees in the U.S. when an American insurance company does not pay claims appropriately. These committees do not exist for regulation purposes abroad.

Finally, when it comes to insurance for visitors, price is not everything. Obviously, it needs to be taken into consideration, but in comparing U.S. companies with foreign ones, often it is a case of one getting what they pay for.

It is quite apparent that visitor health insurance is important to have. One should take great care in evaluating the differences between American and foreign companies. U.S. based insurance companies offer the best of services with guarantees of payment. This kind of security cannot be found in many foreign insurance companies.

Benefits to Purchasing Single Travel Trip Insurance

August 25th, 2008 by Amy Nutt, under Air Travel, Travel Agents. No Comments

by Amy Nutt

Often, you will want to take a single, short trip and need travel insurance. Buying long term travel insurance isnt necessary and will often cost more, so you may find that purchasing single trip travel insurance is a better option.

In general, annual trip insurance, while it covers more than one vacation or business trip, covers just the basics. With a single trip travel insurance policy, you can easily set up your own specifications, depending on the travel insurance provider. Various options are provided and you can mix and match them quite easily with a single trip travel insurance policy.

The ideal candidates for single trip travel insurance are elderly couples heading out on a cruise, the honeymoon couple taking a break from their jobs to celebrate their union in Hawaii and teens doing a missions trip in Africa, just to name a few. Basically, if you know this is going to be a once in a blue moon thing, leaving the country, you will want to make sure that you only purchase travel insurance for one trip. This saves you cash that you can easily spend while on your vacation.

Here are a few of the benefits of choosing a single trip travel insurance policy.

Pricing: Single trip travel insurance will be cheaper than multi trip travel insurance. For anyone who has no plans to take more trips in a year, going with the single trip travel insurance is the best choice.

Trip Cancellation: Your trip may be canceled for any number of reasons, including bad weather, riots, death in the family or any other issue that arises and forces you to cancel. This could be disastrous if you dont have travel insurance. Single trip travel insurance can cover this problem and you wont have to lose all your money on tickets that were canceled. Check with your travel insurance provider to help you understand all your options in this area.

Medical Evacuation: If you suddenly become ill while on a cruise or traveling elsewhere, you can be evacuated to the nearest competent hospital if needed. For those who are traveling outside of their home country, this can be very useful since hospitals in other countries may not be up to our medical standards. With single trip travel insurance, this should be covered for you, but check with your travel insurance provider, of course, to get all the details.

Lost or Stolen Luggage: Unfortunately, its all too common to arrive at your destination and discover that your suitcase has gone to Timbuktu. Rather than losing everything, make sure to purchase a single trip travel insurance that will cover the loss of luggage and make sure that you can replace valuable items like your laptop or iPod.

Lost or Stolen Passport: As you can imagine, it can be pretty bad to lose your documents, such as a passport, overseas. Your single trip travel insurance will help cover the costs involved with getting a new passport, particularly if it has to be a rush job or a temp passport due to travel timing. This way you won`t have to stress out as much about the cost of new documents.

Single trip travel medical insurance is ideal for anyone who doesnt leave home more than once a year. If you are just heading out for a week or so, taking a cruise, attending a business convention elsewhere, etc. you can save quite a bit of money and customize your insurance options with single trip travel insurance.
