Recreation Boating Laws And License For Canadian Waterways

September 5th, 2010 by Adriana Noton, under Vacations. No Comments

If you are looking for unparalleled scenery, and a place to enjoy an assortment of outdoor sports, you might want to consider taking a vacation in Canada. You will find a wide variety of awe inspiring terrain, one of a kind wildlife, and more than enough waterways for recreation. Canada has some new boating laws for pleasure crafts you need to know.

Okanagan Valley is almost a desert because it is so dry, but there is plenty of water available to put a boat in and enjoy your leisure. This area is adored by thousands of people, both local and guest, with unequaled variety of climate and landscape, it is the perfect place for boating and sailing. But sure you have an operators card if your boat is motor powered.

Adams River is the place to go when every fourth year the sockeye salmon return to their place of birth, by the millions. A world famous event is enjoyed from many locations along the waterway, and there are plenty of lodges and resorts to provide travelers who want to soak up some time indoors, for a change.

In the event you do not have your own boat with you, there are rental places at Big Rideau Lake which is a paradise for boaters. This body of water is actually several rivers and lakes connected by many canals. By whatever means you travel into the area, boats are for rent, and you will have to have a craft operator card, if the boat is motorized.

IF you want to feel like a sport, try landing a Walleye salmon that weighs over 18 pounds, Saskatchewan offers a fantastic array of 100,000 lakes. Some of them are therapeutic. The Province offers many ways to have a great holiday, and the variety of lakes makes it a fisherman’s dream. Saskatchewan is one of the best places to travel for entertainment and relaxation.

There is one area of Canada that almost looks like the Caribbean, instead of Canada. The beaches of Ontario at Lake Erie, which is sustained by Huron River flowing in from the west, and St. Clair from the east, are also battlegrounds of the War of 1812. While boating in the waters of Canada complying with boating laws and regulations is required.

The fresh water system formed by the Great Lakes and their connecting channels is the largest on earth. Clearly seen from the moon, their interesting shapes look erie, one of them even looks like the head of a wolf. Fed by many rivers, should their combined water be spread evenly, they would cover the entire United States under 9.5 feet of water.

Alberta in the Canadian Rockies offers more than 600 lakes where jet boating is a favorite sport for anyone with a boat license, and an excellent place to scuba dive. River boarding is a great new sport being enjoyed in Alberta, surfing the rapids is a favorite pastime of young and old. Should a little diversion be of interest to you, you can take a ride on the Rocky Mountaineer, with a tour that ends in Vancouver.

Taking the boat on Lake Ontario this weekend? Don’t get caught without an Ontario boating license. Take time today to sit a boat exam. You can take the boat test online and have a PCOC License today.

Football Flashback: Favre Shines As Vikings Rip Cowboys

August 19th, 2010 by Ross Everett, under Travel and Leisure. No Comments

When legendary quarterback Brett Favre announced his return to the NFL from what has become a seemingly annual flirtation with retirement, many second guessed the Minnesota Vikings’ decision to sign “The Gunslinger”. On Sunday, Favre and the Vikings answered those critics in the best way possible-with a lopsided 34-3 beatdown of the Dallas Cowboys. Favre threw 4 touchdown passes in the victory and the Vikings’ defense sacked Dallas QB Tony Romo six times in the blowout. Minnesota will now face the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship game.

NFL football betting fans also cashed tickets on the Vikings as -3 point home favorites. This was the shortest pointspread of the divisional playoff weekend and many thought that Dallas’ momentum would carry them to victory. The 37 combined points went UNDER the posted total of 45. Minnesota had gone UNDER in four of six games to conclude the regular season.

After the contest, Favre boasted that a playoff run was a large part of his motivation to return to NFL action:

“”This is what I came back for. Probably the most fatigued I got today was celebrating. I feel like I’m playing the same way. I have the same enthusiasm. As long as I’m out there, the enthusiasm and the passion that you see is real. And I know the guys feed off of that. Fans enjoy that, because it is real and genuine. Today was like this season: It’s been wonderful.”

Former South Carolina Gamecock Sidney Rice caught three of Favre’s touchdown passes:

“Same ol’ Brett. He’s doing thing he’s done since he first came in the league: moving around, getting the ball out, breaking tackles and even running down the field and throwing blocks. That just shows you how big of a heart he has.”

Head coach Brad Childress mixed up a bunch of metaphors as he took a swipe at the prognosticators who picked Dallas to win:

“The Tasmanian devils were coming from Dallas that were about to bombard the state of Minnesota and run through us like Sherman through the South. All of us felt it quite palpably.”

Cowboys’ QB didn’t have much to say in defeat:

“Any time you come in with the expectations and goals we set and don’t accomplish them, No. 1, it’s frustrating. Right now, it’s just hard to think the season is over.”

Cowboys’ head coach Wade Phillips had a similar take:

“It’s like the elevator falling from the top. It’s tough when it’s over. If you don’t win it all, you have not reached your goal.”

The Vikings will now head to New Orleans for Sunday’s NFC Championship game against the Saints. Minnesota is a +3′ point road underdog with the total set at 52′.

Kitesurfing Equipment, The Basic List Of Kit To Start Riding

August 11th, 2010 by Gregg Kell, under Travel and Leisure. No Comments

One of the recent extreme sports to burst onto the scene and achieve a rapidly growing community is Kitesurfing. It offers that alluring mixture of hard exercise, capturing the power of one of natures elements, and being at the seaside! We take a look at the kitesurfing equipment list to get you out into the wind and waves.

Safety should be your number one priority. The sea can be a dangerous environment, aside from the drowning risk, there is the risk of injury such as broken bones and concussion due to the surface of the water feeling extremely hard in the event of a fall from height. The wind and waves themselves are never 100% predictable either, so definitely consider personal protective equipment, especially a helmet or padded protector.

Right, on to the kite. You’ll need to be proficient in flying skills, so if you have never flown large power kites or traction kites before on land consider working up slowly to kiteboarding to make sure you can handle the power, and importantly, handle the prevailing weather conditions.

If you’re not accomplished, consider having lessons or a fast track course in the skills involved. This will quickly get you comfortable with the basics and keep you in as safe an environment as possible until you’re happy to get out on your own.

There are big differences too between kites designed for use on land and kites designed for use on the water. For starters, land power kites (traction kites) tend to be a ram air design, filling with air like a parachute when in the wind power window.

For this reason, Leading Edge Inflatable (or LEI) kites were born, these guys float on the surface and are much easier to get back up into the air if you do drop them down. Not only that, but the wing profile allows easier upwind surfing too.

Power kites for the land are normally a four line design with brake lines fixed to the trailing edge and power lines attached at the front, then connected to banana shaped handles that allow the kite to collapse and ‘brake’ when the handles are adjusted to tighten the rearward lines. Inflatable edge wings are best used with a depower system using five lines which allow mid air power adjustment.

Depowerable kites connect the power lines to either end of a rigid control bar, and then join the brake lines in the centre via an adjustable system that goes through the centre of the bar and connects directly to a harness that the flyer wears. This allows the user to quickly adjust the angle of the wing to add or decrease power. The harness connections usually have a quick release safety pull too in case of emergencies.

Naturally you’ll need a board of some kind as well to kitesurf. There are a couple of basic styles, all with lots of variation in shape and style from manufacturer to manufacturer. One basic style is a single direction board, similar to a windsurfing board; the other style is more like a wakeboard and is known as a twin tip. This is the more prevalent type of board on the waves currently. Whatever kitesurfing equipment you choose, get out there and enjoy it!

If you are looking for great details and information about kitesurfing equipment by a guy who uses board, kite, and equipment, you will find it easy and fast! Check out Gregg Kell, a sports enthusiast that offers great kitesurfing reviews today!

David Beckham’s Recovery Behind Schedule

August 3rd, 2010 by Ross Everett, under Travel and Leisure. No Comments

When David Beckham suffered a torn Achilles’ tendon in a Italian league game in mid-March, doctors gave him an outside chance of returning in time for the World Cup or at the very least part of the MLS season. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like either of these favorable scenarios will transpire. In a recent statement Beckham broke the news that his recovery is behind schedule and he won’t be able to resume playing soccer until November at the earliest.

This timetable does leave open the possibility that he could return to action should the Los Angeles Galaxy make the MLS playoffs. He’s been assured that he’s welcome back at AC Milan in Italy’s Serie A league whenever he’s back in playing shape, though neither the team nor Beckham have indicated anything specific about his future with the team.

Beckham, who is still using crutches to get around, explained his recovery process:

“I won’t be running for another three months, so I will be playing again in, probably, November.”

“My mentality is to kind of push it and get moving and running and soon as possible. But it’s an injury that has to take time to heal. It’s frustrating. It’s obviously disappointing because I’ve been working for the last two years to get into the English squad [for the World Cup].”

“At the moment, it’s just getting the motion back into the ankle, the tendon, because it’s still repairing. I’m trying to get mobilization back into the ankle.”

Beckham also recalled the injury itself:

“It was like being hit by a hockey puck. I thought someone was behind me and kicked me. Obviously no one was there and I saw my foot hanging and then I felt down there and there was a hole.”

The former England captain would have likely served in a reserve capacity with the World Cup squad. Even without Beckham in the lineup and with lingering injury issues plaguing Manchester United superstar Wayne Rooney soccer betting enthusiasts are bullish on England’s prospects this summer. The ‘Three Lions’ are currently the third favorite in World Cup future betting behind Brazil and Spain.

Eskimos Outlast Stampeders In Wild CFL Matchup

August 3rd, 2010 by Ross Everett, under Travel and Leisure. No Comments

The Edmonton Eskimos survived a wild back and forth CFL shootout against the Calgary Stampeders before prevailing 38-35 to take over sole possession of first place in the CFL West. Ricky Ray hit Fred Stamps with a 23 yard touchdown pass with just nine seconds to play to earn the victory, erasing the lead that Calgary had earned with their own TD pass less than a half minute earlier. Edmonton improved to 4-3 with the win, while Calgary dropped to 3-4.

Winning QB Ricky Ray said that he enjoyed playing in the shootout:

“That was a ton of fun. In the CFL you get to play in a lot of games like this, especially against a guy like (Calgary quarterback Henry) Burris, who has done this to us. It’s great to come out on the winning end of a shoot-out like that. It’s a great uplift for the team. It’s a huge win for us.”

Eskimos head coach Richie Hall said that the outcome couldnt have been timed any better:

“Regardless of what happens, we are coming back in first place. Now we have one up on Calgary. It’s going to be a dogfight for all the teams in the West and any chance you get to win, especially a win like this, it’s a real bonus. It’s great for our confidence.”

Calgarys Burris remembered a very similar game last year where Edmonton won by the same margin on a last play touchdown:

“They got us last year in this situation and of course you didn’t think it was going to happen again or even could happen again. It felt so great to get that late touchdown and with 38 seconds on the clock nobody was even thinking about last year. We had to stop Jackson and we didn’t. And we had to stop Ray and we didn’t. Kudos to Edmonton.”

Calgary returns to action on Aug. 28 in Toronto while the Eskimos will next play on Aug. 29 when they host Hamilton. The two CFL provincial rivals from Alberta will face each other twice more this season.
