Lodging Options For Adventure Travel
December 4th, 2008 by Ken Morris, under Vacations. No Comments
Those that decide to embark on adventure travel will find that there is much to do prior to taking on this vacation including planning for everything from the climate to the lodging they will use. This type of travel is wonderful and offers many benefits, but you do have to plan for it ahead of time. Make sure that you have the things that you need to fully experience your trip as well as what you need to protect you along the way. Do you know what you need to take with you on your next adventure?
Planning Your Trip
Perhaps the worst thing you can do for this type of trip is to not plan correctly for it. If you do not have the right legal documents, for example, after you have flown halfway around the world, what will you do? Or, if you plan on going someplace where you will need specialized clothing or equipment and do not have it, what will happen then? These things will cost you monetarily but also provide you with unneeded aggravation. Be prepared for your trip!
What You’ll Need
First, be sure that you have all necessary documents that you need to prove who you are. This is likely to include things like your passport and a visa for the location if you are required to have one. Have these easily available to prove your identity when leaving for your trip. Do not make the mistake of arriving at the airport and then finding out that your visa has expired or that your passport is no longer valid. Do not forget these items either. You should talk to the operator or tour guide that will be sponsoring your travel adventure so that you know exactly what is needed for you to travel.
The next thing to consider is having appropriate health insurance. You likely need to think about having coverage that will work in the location that you are in and that it provides you with accurate coverage. Your insurance carrier will help you to know if you need anything additional to cover injuries or problems that happen overseas. Be sure that you have available credit cards as well as credit cards that are not expiring. You will need to be sure that you have room on those cards to make expensive charges if needed. Organize all your finances too.
Be sure that you talk with the people that you are planning your adventure traveling with so that you know everything that you need including a map. Ask those questions so that you have all details that are necessary. Having this information is important because it will allow you to have the best possible time when you are traveling. Take the time to prepare to travel especially when it comes to adventure travel so that you are ready to go.
The Best Vacation Is Not Always The Best Location
December 3rd, 2008 by Rob Carlton, under Vacations, World Travel. No Comments
With all the emphasis today on physical fitness and the outdoors, more people than ever are choosing to spend their vacations in a location where they can go hiking or backpacking. They’re finding sightseeing is just as much fun on foot with a backpack as it is from a car window. There is also the savings on gas and the exercise the body is getting, which are both bonuses. As easy as backpacking may seem, there are some recommended tips on backpacking you may want to follow.
Regardless of whether your hiking adventure is close or far away in Alicante or Madrid, you will need a good backpack. ‘Good’ doesn’t necessarily mean expensive, just good for you. There are many different kinds of backpacks on the market today. Some with a few zippered compartments and pockets; some have many or no zippered compartments. Go to a store that sells a large variety and pick out a few you like. Don’t be afraid to try them on in the store, walking around a bit to get a feel of how it fits and feels on your back. While you may feel you need one big enough to carry all your necessities, don’t get one that is so big that it’s going to be awkward and heavy on your back. Try to find a backpack that has a detachable daypack.
Now that you have your backpack, you need supplies to put inside. It’s a good idea to make a checklist of what you will need. You will need a nice thick towel, preferably a quick drying one. You don’t want a damp towel getting mildew on everything else in your backpack.
A good pair of walking shoes is essential for the comfort of your feet, especially with all the walking you’ll be doing. As you did with the backpack, try these on and walk around a bit in the store. The clerks are used to this when they sell quality shoes. There are many good walking shoes to choose from.
You will need to pack a couple pair of underwear and socks, possibly even long underwear if it’s cold outside at night where you will be hiking. You may want to bring along a pillowcase and sleeping bag, just in case you stay at a backpacker hotel. Your pillowcase may also later double as a bag for carrying some of your items.
Some personal items you may want to pack are a small wallet (for your traveler’s checks & the passport you had better have with you’ve taken a flight out of the country), small camera, flip-flops (for the shower), wet wipes, detergent, rain gear, band-aids or small first-aid kit, personal hygiene items such as toothpaste, deodorant and shampoo and extra clothing.
A few days before you leave, pack your backpack with all your items, take a walk around the block a couple of times, and see how it feels. If it feels unbearable, this is your opportunity to see what you can take out and still get by comfortably.
A Rapid Tour of Spain
October 29th, 2008 by Lauren Thompson, under Vacations. No Comments
With over fifty million holidaymakers inspecting Spain each year, this common West European country must have something remarkable which draws the visitor. What exactly is it …?
The most-valuable beauty of this stunning land can be added up in just one word - variety - and, as you all well know, variety is the spice up of life!
Whether you are relating to its clime, geography, story, culture or cuisine … there is something to attract to all tastes, ages and pockets.
The tourer burst which took place in the 60s was originally due to its marvellous beaches. And, with good reason, for the Foundation for Environmental Education states that “Spanish beaches are the most environmentally healthy in Europe” and has granted the much-coveted Blue Flag to 450 of the countrys beaches - more than any other concerned country.
Maybe you hungriness for the peace and smooth of a hideaway hotel in an good village? Then agricultural Spain is for you: full of unmarked villages, busting at the crinkles with medieval castling, and offering prolific flora and fauna, it is perfect for walking holidays, painting, photography or just plain “get away from it all” holidays. Not to remark ski-ing opportunities for the more active amongst Spains snow-capped tops.
Should you figure a mix of all three - beach, city and rural - then that is also easy to fix up. Although Spain is the greatest country in Western Europe after France, it is sure no problem to get around. Littered with airports - both national and foreign - it also offers a good train service, though the meanest and most favorable method of internal travel is by using the national bus/coach system.
For those who are a little drawn of the stereo-typed hotel chains, Spain has a special option on offer in its state-established “paradores”. In these, you will find accommodation in converted castles, palaces, forts, monasteries, convents …
The propose of the “paradores” is to offer high banners at average prices in a precious constructing or location and to help continue the traditions of regional cooking by serving the best of local cuisine in the “parador” eating houses.
Which brings us on to yet another joy that Spain has to offer - its rich and varied cuisine. Whichever region of Spain you decide to visit, you will surely encounter delicious Spanish food!
Whats more, the established Spanish diet, with the smooth gold of its olive oil, its rich supply of wine (in moderation!), its wide variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, plus an abundance of seafood, all mean that it is extremely good for the heart. On top of that, it is low-budget!
Tapas arise from the grand, southerly region of Andalucia and it is this region that we also have to thank for flamenco and the Spanish guitar. Which holiday would be mastered without inspecting an responsible flamenco show or dancing the night away to the beat of affectionate Spanish music?
So … come up visit this land where the warmness of its mood is only surpassed by the warmth of its people. You are held to have a great time!

Spain European Culture Destination
August 27th, 2008 by John Douglas, under Vacation Destinations, World Travel. No Comments
If you are planning a vacation to Europe, make sure that Spain is one of the vacation destinations you choose. Spain is a very warm country that offers numerous different attractions that will please the whole family.
Deeply rooted in their heritage, Spain is a remarkable land with a rich and intriguing history. The Spanish people are just as incredible as the magnificent countryside and there are a variety of different destinations and tourist attractions throughout the country. Because each region of Spain offers something different to its visitors, you should take the time to explore the many options and vacation opportunities available before deciding which part of Spain you will visit. Southern Spain, for example, is an ideal region for family vacations. The province of Andalucia is filled with family-friendly towns that offer a variety of things to do and see and the entire southern region of Spain is remarkably picturesque.
One of the most historic cities in Andalucia is Cordoba. Here, visitors can enjoy the breezy, year-round Mediterranean climate and explore ancient structures dating back to the Roman Empire. Those with an interest in ancient architecture find the town of Cordoba fascinating.
One of the most popular historical sites visited in Cordoba is the Great Cathedral and Mosque. The Mosque was once a Visigothic Church until Cordoba was conquered by the Moors. The church was unfortunately demolished by the Moors and the mosque was built in its place. The mosque was then turned back in to a church when Spain took back the city. The materials used in the construction of this remarkable church, with its double horseshoe arches are onyx, marble and granite and boasts over one thousand columns within the ancient building.
If you are interested in the history of Spain then Cordoba has quite a few interesting museums to visit. The museums of Cordoba contains the most valuable, historical artifacts that relate to the history of Spain, and cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The most wonderful display of historical artifacts and plant life can be found in the Palacio Museo de Vianna. Here you can view numerous artifacts that are thousands of years old, or visit any one of the fourteen gardens that are so beautifully maintained.
In northwest Spain, San Sebastian is another beautiful city with a colorful past. Once a village, focused on spirituality and later a town centered on military functions, San Sebastian has been rebuilt to its present state of glory on two different occasions due to devastating fires.
San Sebastian is very well known for its festivals and celebrations, which is one of the main attractions for tourists. The city holds several different events annually, and the San Sebastian Jazz Festival, Jazzaldia attracts music lovers from all walks of life. The festival lasts for six days, offering plenty of fine local food to sample and plenty of jazz music to listen and dance to. This festival is now in it’s fortieth year, which shows just how popular and well recognised the festival has become over the years. Another festival that is held in San Sebastian every year is the horror and fantasy film festival. A great festival offering not just horror movies but also stand up comics, street shows and live music. Every year vistors come from all over the world to sample this real, live entertainment.
The above are just two of the more popular festivals that people attend in San Sebastian every year. The culinary capital of Northwest Spain, San Sebastian cuisine has been heavily influenced by the Basques. The beach areas of San Sebastian are a great place to grab a bite to eat or you could try a traditional country style restaurant. One thing for sure, you are in for a culinary experience that will be remembered.
