Different Kinds Of Auto Navigation Systems

It is a strange fact that many purchasers of new cars are willing to pay several times the true value of a satellite navigation system in order to have it fitted by the manufacturer. It is true that the car’s manufacturer normally does an excellent job of fitting the device, but then you are paying a premium for it.
If you bought the sat nav unit independently and had it installed by a third party, you would buy it for a third or a quarter of the rate. Still, it is part of the idea of buying a new car to have all the latest apparatus built in to it. Satellite navigation, popularly called sat nav, is a real boon, if you buy a system that is up-to-date and that is regularly updated.
It is not necessary to have the sat nav installed in the car factory in order to have it fitted well. Many third party installers are quite capable of making a good job of it too without having to have your radio/CD player taken out.
Many auto navigation systems are fitted to the instrument panel by means of rubber suction cups in any case. Buying a sat nav unit that does not have to have holes cut for it will also keep the cost to a minimum without having to sacrifice quality or safety.
An important issue to remember is that there are many types of GPS systems, each with rather specific uses. GPS for an ocean-going yacht does not have to have road maps, whereas GPS for a bicycle may not give enough advanced warning for the speed of a car.
Even if you buy a GPS sat nav device for a road vehicle, there are several types. The three basic kinds are: stand-alone, such as you see fitted at the car factory; hand-held and systems that are meant to be used with a laptop computer or similar device.
The stand-alone systems are the most prevalent, because they have various advantages: they are made for the job of getting you from A to B via C, D and E, if required; they carry a database of landmarks which will help you know that you are on the correct road; a voice will give you directions so that yo do not have to keep looking at the screen and it will memorize and integrate earlier routes.
Hand-held sat nav systems work, but require more thought and sometimes additional software to be provided by the user. The screen is usually too small to be of much use and some only create voice directions. Others only provide graphic directions. However, they are better than nothing if you are walking or cycling in unknown terrain.
Laptops and PDA’s offer an excellent service, particularly if you already had the apparatus for other reasons such as office work.
So, it is not just a question of getting hold of a cheap sat nav console and thinking that they are all the same, you have to see it running so that you can weigh up whether it is going to be of any benefit to you in your circumstances.

School Mascots And What They Mean
January 20th, 2011 by Adriana Noton, under Travel and Leisure. No Comments
Mascot are a figure that represents a school or foundation or a group which is supposed to promote the spirit and drive of that group. These symbols give each group member something to identify with and support. These little symbols represent much more than just the group itself.
In history there have been many symbols to represent groups or two opposing sides in a war, or on an idea, or congregations. The symbols given to these groups represent much more than just the image they convey. Some symbols may mean wisdom or strength or loyalty as well as many other things. No matter what these representations mean, they promote spirit and the well being of the group.
In schools these symbols have the same effect, the images become a part of the students identities, they become what they relate to as a whole. The cheer leaders chant the name of the mascot rather than the school name because people do not relate to a building, but the people who are inside the building who call themselves the same mascot that you call yourself. In time it becomes something that needs defending against bad names, or bad reputations, like a family name.
These symbols can have a deep psychological impact on people, for example if a team was to compete against another team called the fluffy bunnies there would be no intimidation factor which is another thing these symbols represent. Without this intimidation factor no team would have an upper hand which could be called cheap or cheating in some ones opinion but it adds to the competition.
Symbols are more than just teams or groups, they give people something to belong to. These symbols make it so that you relate to the people in the group but also the symbol. For example, the black panthers were a group of radical racial ideals in a controversial time. The members of the group did not call themselves members of a radical group but they called themselves panthers. Over time the symbol becomes a part of who you are, like is sororities or fraternities.
Mascots may represent current events in the time of construction of a building or a group. For example, a school house which was once a jail house is now called freedom high school, this not only reflects the historical feel of the town and what it has gone through, but it gives the school a patriotic name thus generating the school pride. Several establishments may have been built in honor of people as well, such as presidents, or people such as Martin Luther King Jr.
Even though this is not normal, some institutions do not have symbols to represent them, many establishments such as musical institutions and such have a higher concentration on things that do not need symbols. Also, many private schools are known to not have a symbol like other public schools do because it may be hard and slightly strange to turn a religious figure into a symbol to represent a whole school.
Mascots are symbols that represent teams, or groups or buildings which in time become a part of those members identity. The identity of these mascot people changes not because they are simply in a group but because of what the group represents. For example many people wear or have cross tattoos to represent their closeness to their faith. Mascots can describe who people are.
