During the festive season there can be no better place to visit than the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. As a Christmas holiday vacation spot it is perfect for the whole family, and beats heading off to some far flung exotic location to get a winter tan.
Whilst the destination is a common attraction throughout the year, it truly comes into its own over the Christmas period. The place proves so enchanting that repeat visits for years to come will no doubt figure highly amongst many families agendas. With lights twinkling everywhere in all shapes and sizes, emanating from every shop and restaurant, its is impossible not to be dazzled by the sheer beauty of your surroundings. Couple that with the sparkling snow and beautiful ambiance provided by the regular chorus of carols, and you’ll never want to leave.
There are attractions to suit all needs and desires. If you are with family, then its best to decide what you wish to do and then choose from the multitude of attractions on offer so that you get the best experience possible. There is the Ober Gatlinburg ski resort for those who enjoy snow sports and ice skating. For those who love a bit of wildlife, the aquarium is sure to impress. And for those seeking Santa, the Christmas Palace is the place to be.
However, a trip to the Smoky Mountains is never complete without a visit up into the hills and woods for trekking and other outdoor activities. The beauty of the place with all the snow and glistening ice needs to be seen to be believed.
One of the crowning jewels on offer and display is Clingmans Dome. Standing up above the mountains at 6643 feet, it is the highest point in the range and all of Tennessee. On a clear day it is possible to see into seven different states from the observation tower and a chance to take some holiday snaps for friends and family to drool over on your return.
Other attractions include the Dollywood theme park with a multitude of rides and action as well as the Space Needle with it observation deck and arcade zone at the bottom for the teenagers in the family.
If it’s festive fun you want, however there really is only one place to be. The Christmas Palace will transport you straight into the heart of Santa’s world. In fact, you may just see him round one of the corners as you wander through this beautiful festive place. There is no substitute for seeing a crowd of spellbound children sitting at Santa’s feet listening to him tell stories or chant Christmas melodies. If you are a fan of the festive season, then there is no doubt that the Smoky Mountains are the place to be whatever age you are.
