Many people visiting Paris on vacation misunderstand that there’s only one modern art museum in Paris.

But the fact is that, there are a lot of places in Paris showcasing modern art. There are two major museums you can visit that are known as modern art museums.

The Palace of Modern Art is but a portion of a huge palace in 11 Avenue du President Wilson named after Woodrow Wilson, President of the United States during the First World War. It is the first of the two modern art museums found in Paris.

You can get to this Modern Art Museum using the metro system. Stop on either Alma Marceau or Iena and walk a few meters to the Palace of Modern Art.

The Palace of Modern Art through its wide array of collection depicts the various schools of art in France during the 1900s such as Expressionism, Dada, Cubism and Fauvism.

French modern artists whose works are showcased in this museum include Braque, Duffy, Modigliani, Picasso and Soutine.

The Palace of Modern Art is open from Tuesday to Sunday at 10 o’clock in the morning until 5:30 in the afternoon. During weekends, it shuts down at 6:30. They also hold temporary exhibits demanding you to pay more to watch it.

Another spot to see modern artworks in Paris is situated at the well-known Pompidou Center. It contains 3000 pieces of modern artworks not only from France but several parts of the world. But then it often leases its pieces to other art museums in the city and other parts of the country, so it is desirable to check with the custodian if you intend to see a particular art work.

Just like the Palace of Modern Art, this also holds temporary exhibitions of works by contemporary artists in France which usually takes place in the building’s south wing. You can enter the premises through Rue Saint-Merri.
