For the newly-wed couple in search of that special something as they begin their life together, Pemba the honeymoon island could just be the place to go.

It is part of an archipelago that consist of Zanzibar ( Ugunja ), Mafia, and Pemba, three exotic islands that make Tanzania one of Africa’s finest beach safari destinations.

Why a honeymoon there?

Surrounded by the clear Indian Ocean waters, beautiful sandy beaches and the rustle of the palm trees, tranquility begins and ends on Pemba Island. It is about 80km to the north-east of Zanzibar and another 80km east of Tanzania mainland so it is largely unspoiled and uncrowded.

There are two exclusive accommodations here that have packages especially designed for honeymooners, The Funduu Lagoon and the Manta Reef Lodge.

You will find rooms with a sea-view made from local materials and fully fitted to pamper you. Enjoy also the good food served in good dining facilities.

What activities are on offer:

– private dinner on the beach

– sunset cruises by dhow

– picnic baskets at the poolside when not dining at the main dining room

– boat rides out into the deep sea

– sighting of the whales between July and September and boat trips to watch the dolphins or even swim with them

– for the enthusiast, there is also water sports like fishing, scuba diving and snorkeling

And how do you get there? You can reach Pemba the honeymoon island by scheduled flights or light charter aircraft or by ferry service or by private speedboat service from Tanzania. It is a honeymoon with a difference.
