Use Poker Tells!

In poker, tells are signs and clues that tell you how good or bad your opponents are. They give you hints as to what kind of villains you have on your table. Tells allow you to try and read your opponents behavior and use it to your advantage.

It is easier to make tells playing live poker than online poker. This is because you can observe your opponents reactions and physical movements in a live game. Playing online, you are limited to observing your computer screen. Here’s a pair of basic online poker tells for you.

Basic Poker Tells

The guy who must always see the flop

This player always wants to see the flop, no matter what kind of hand he has. He will call or limp in frequently to try and see if he can improve his bad hand on the flop. This guy lacks caution and experience and can be very easily taken advantage of.

The Nitty Guy

This player always folds even with decent cards. He doesn’t want to waste his money betting on drawing cards and he almost never bluffs. He never takes chances with his cards and only bets with big hands. If this opponent ever bets, you will know that he has a very strong hand. You would be very wise to fold weaker hands to him in this situation. In other situations, you can probably get this player to fold his hand by representing a stronger hand than you currently have.

Observe Your Villain’s Habits!

You have to read and observe your opponent’s betting history and use it to make educated guesses as to what kind of hand he has. You should use past history to put your villain’s on a reasonable range and make good decisions based on that. In the lower levels of poker, there’s a big chance that your opponent will play the same way with the same type of cards. Use this knowledge and make good reads and decisions.

More poker tells usually involve observing your opponent’s speed of action, the size of his bets, and how this all fits in to their past patterns. You also have to see if your opponent uses check boxes, like if he insta checks. This probably means that he has a weak hand he would be willing to fold and he plays it by clicking the check/fold button.

You have to have the right poker psychology to improve and be a winning poker player today!
