Night Vision Goggles: Is it Illegal To Have Them?

When you watch a war movie you see soldiers wearing night vision goggles and they hunt down there enemies using the darkness as there cover. They are able to take out there enemies without so much as a problem.
Well, some parts of the world consider Night Vision Goggles illegal to possess if they are military grade. I read about a women recently that lives in Singapore and she bought a pair for $950 over the internet. She was able to receive them even though they went right through customs and no one said a word about it.
Now, I’m not pointing any fingers here but customs was not doing there job in my opinion. They should of seized them to at least took a look at them to see if they met the criteria of being against the law. If there military grade they are and if not then they are free to be owned by regular citizens.
The women had bought the Night Vision Goggles for a brother of hers. He really appreciated them and used them quite a bit. But after a couple of weeks he lost interest in them and told her to just go ahead and just sell them. She will now sell them online and they should sell quickly.
The type of Goggles she had obtained were very good but they were not military grade and did not have the proper night optics that are illegal to own by citizens in her country. When the package arrived it was of a factory sealed status and was not opened to be inspected or examined at all.
Quite a number of countries feel threatened by Night Vision Goggles because National Security could be at stake. This is the reason that owning them may be against the law. But, If you contact the proper government office to get permission first however then this is a legal way for you to be able to possess them without breaking any laws.
The worry is that terrorists will get there hands on night vision goggles and be able to spy on our countries government and targets in general, This could give terrorists a leg up in the war on terrorism.
But there are numerous countries around the world that will allow Night Vision Goggles without a problem at all. A couple of places come to mind such as the United States and Europe. People in these countries use them for camping, hiking, fishing, photos, sports, games and many other night time activities that take place outdoors.
