If you’re planning a trip to the Sinai Peninsula or Egypt in general, the city of Sharm El Sheikh should most definitely be on your destination list. This gorgeous city is adorned with a fast-paced nightlife that rivals any urban location, and the many luxury resorts with breathtaking architecture redefine the term “fine living”. However, the city of Sharm El Sheikh is much more than its downtown location. During your next trip to the region, consider the wonderful day-trip attractions listed below to truly experience the Sinai Peninsula.
Gorgeous Coastlines – If your trip to Egypt includes spending some quality time on the stunning coastline, then Sharm El Sheikh will not disappoint you. The pristine beaches lines with palm trees truly makes it a unique tropical destination where you don’t have to sacrifice comfort and luxury – the many high-class resorts in this region have beachfront locations, making it possible to enjoy the coastline by simply walking out of your room. Alternatively, you can book a camel excursion and explore the coastline the traditional way.
The Colored Canyon – Traveling to the Sinai Peninsula is not complete without planning a few excursions outside of Sharm El Sheikh, and the Colored Canyon is one of the most alluring attractions to visit. Although a trip to this canyon can easily be planned for a day, don’t let the proximity fool you – one does not have to travel far to experience the natural, untouched beauty of a landscape. After traversing through deep canyons with imposing rock walls (that will pleasantly block the sun), you are greeted with a truly inspiring sight. The naturally colored walls of this canyon are a unique wonder to view, and the mysterious silence of the region only heightens the drama of this unique experience.
Saint Catherine Monastery and Mount Sinai – If sitting on the beach is a bit too low-key for you or your travel partners, then consider a trip to the beautiful Saint Catherine Monastery. Much like the Colored Canyon, you can easily visit this location in a day, although you may want to visit several more times in order to fully experience the beauty of this building. Not only is it a structural wonder, but it has much historical and religious value as well. It is one of the oldest working Christian monasteries in the world, and also houses the second largest collection of ancient religious manuscripts. The religious significance of this monastery is also a tribute to its vast collection of religious artwork, with pieces dating back to the 12th and 13th century. The interior of Saint Catherine is decorated with beautiful ancient portraits of the Madonna, Jesus Christ, and Saint Catherine herself.
Since Saint Catherine lies at the foot of Mount Sinai, you can also marvel as this natural wonder while visiting. While it is not the largest peak in the Sinai Peninsula (that honor goes to Mount St. Catherine naturally), its attraction is not in the physical characteristics, but the religious significance. According to Bedouin tradition, this mountain is where God detailed laws to the Israelites and is also a mountain mentioned in the Qur’an. With this in mind, Saint Catherine’s and Mount Sinai have a heavy religious presence in Egypt.
Sharm El Sheikh is a glorious attraction, whether for religious reasons or to view the stunning landscapes. Your next trip to Egypt should not neglect the Sinai Peninsula, so plan to stay at one of the many luxury resorts in Sharm El Sheikh.
