Scotland is an immensely popular destination for vacations as it is highly suitable for a wide variety of vacations. If you enjoy breaks in the countryside the landscape ranges from plenty of astonishing coastal destinations to woodlands and mountains found further inland perfect for hill-walkers, mountain climbers, ramblers, hikers. In the following article I examine Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland.
The city of Edinburgh is home to some of the most impressive galleries and museums in Britain and within easy access is an excellent collection of country homes, historical buildings, castles and fortified houses which are well worth visiting. The city is a city of two halves, the Old Town and the New Town, which are vastly different, however both are a World Heritage Site.
Even though it is the capital city it is surprisingly green and not that far away from the city centre you will discover yourself in the most beautiful countryside. 2 of the best open areas in the centre of the city are Princes Street Gardens and the Royal Botanic Garden. Along Princes Street you will find the common high street shops, in the West End you will find stylish boutiques, in the New Town you will find numerous designer products and in the Old Town there are a selection of independent merchants, artisans and designers.
Edinburgh is world renowned for it huge number of festivals. referred to as Europe’s festival capital the year’s calendar is packed full of events and festivals throughout each month of the year. The month of August is the busiest, with no less than 8 festivals taking place. Obviously this is an incredibly difficult time to find an Edinburgh Hotel with vacancies, so book early.
The Edinburgh festival year ends, or starts, with Hogmanay. As well known is the superb Edinburgh Fringe Festival and other festivals include; the Festival of Politics, Jazz Festival, Edinburgh Mela, Book Festival and more.
A Word About Accommodation In Edinburgh
As I mentioned above the worst month to find rooms is August when nearly all Edinburgh Hotels are fully booked. Sadly the same could be said about Christmas and New Year which is commonly booked almost a full twelve months in advance, so it really is crucially important to book early!
The city features a marvelous selection of guest houses and hotels ranging from cheap and cheerful inn to the extremely costly first class luxury hotels with spas and the likes with oodles of character and charm. So whatever price you can afford you will surely find the most suitable accommodation for you online.
