You may be faced with deciding on what you think are cheap ski deals, but are they really a bargain or maybe well hidden expensive options? How do you work out the costs of these so called cheap deals?

Many ski resorts do sell blocks of time to travel agencies, give some time as promotions to be used as competitions and set aside some accommodation for advertising purposes. The balances of the time you can book at these resorts are then divided into yet more cost break down.

The accommodation left is the divided into seasons – high, premium and low. Most of the cheaper deals are offered in the low season, just before the resort closes down for summer and as the snow becomes unstable due to melting.

The task of selling these cheap deals usually ends up with holiday brokers and agencies like travel agencies and special tour operators. With most of the resort open, accommodation may not be a problem such as when you try and book in peak season, thus large groups make use of these cheaper deals.

What makes these deals not so cheap, is the fact that most of the complimentary services that peak season visitors may enjoy, are not available any more due to staff shortages. A great example of this can be seen in the prices of ski lift prices.,

With hundreds and hundreds of users, the ski lifts run continuously during seasons with users being helped by staff. After the peak season, most of these staff take leave of absence and suddenly the lift stops running continuously and will need an operator whom should be paid, thus extra costs to the user.

The same applies to accommodation staff. During peak season you may have the services of cabin staff or room service for free, but on these cheap deals, you pay for any staff member working for you. Food prices are also quite inflated after a season.

Many resorts can not be reached by car, so a special form of transport takes you up there. Peak season visitors simply get on and get transported up the hill, whilst low end season visitors may end up paying good money to reach the resort.

Taking into account all these costs you did not expect, you may be surprised to learn that the high end visitors did not pay any of these costs. Maybe your cheap deal was not such a bargain after all?

The best way to prevent this from happening is to get all the information of extra costs not included in the deal package. Phone or mail the resort and get a full disclosure on their food prices, staff extra’s, lift passes, transport to the resort and any other hidden cost.

With this knowledge you can work out precisely how much this deal will actually cost you. Should you be happy, go ahead and book and enjoy your ski holiday. In other cases you may realize that you might as well go during peak season, enjoy all the extra’s that visitors do get during those times and still pay about the same as for your cheap package.
