Many of the very best scuba sites upon the Great Barrier Reef are a short boat trip from Cairns. That‘s why Cairns is world renowned as the departure point for scuba diving in the amazing Great Barrier Reef . No matter if you want to go on a live-aboard, go on a day cruise out there or even learn how to dive, Cairns could be the place for you. The Great Barrier Reef is over 2000km long and it’s the biggest coral reef system on the globe. It is also really the only living entity apparent from outer space. It’s definately an example of Mother Nature’s treats and we all must strive to protect it.

Cairns is a semi-tropical comfortable city with superb beach locations, such as Kewarra Beach plus Ellis Beach, modern sea food places to eat, a really nice salt water lake perfect for a dip and also the well maintained Cairns Esplanade for a romantic stroll looking over the beachfront. You can take a look at the palm-fringed beach towns Mission Beach and Port Douglas or perhaps go on a boat tour to ever popular Fitzroy Island. In from the coast you’ll find stunning heritage listed rainforests, massive waterfalls and also crystal clear blue lakes. You may want to visit the towns Kuranda, Mareeba along with the capital of the tablelands, Atherton. Most definately don’t miss the breathtaking Crater Lakes National Park. Along with the much more well known Great Barrier Reef excursions you will find rafting tours, seakayaking organized tours, cable cars, jungle canopy treks and bungee jumping. Clubs, pubs, eateries and a pumping Cairns club landscape add to this already wonderful vacation option featuring things to do and attractions for everyone.Do you still need to ask what to do in Cairns?

The actual weather in Cairns will likely be nicer in winter, from July to December, with significantly lower humidity, but quite simply Cairns is often visited all year long. Water temp levels around the low thirties, excursion providers for a lot of forms of Great Barrier Reef visits and particularly healthy and fish covered dive destinations help make Cairns one of the better scuba dive destinations on the earth.

When the Hotel is your vacation destination

Article by Rubel Zaman

The grand hotels from the past bring up visions of luxurious accommodations and lazy days by the pool. Many of those fine hotels are still around and travelers find them to be their favorite vacation destination. These plush architectural masterpieces, many dating back for decades, are meant to be the travelers resting place of choice and fulfill their every wish while on vacation. There are many opulent hotels around the globe that beckon travelers to come and stay a while. Here are a few grand hotels situated here in the U.S.

Hotel Metropole, Avalon, California

Originally built in 1888 by an early Catalina land owner, the Hotel Metropole was considered an Avalon crown jewel. Today as then, visitors come from around the world to enjoy some Mediterranean atmosphere in California. The island of Catalina is the main attraction for many and the hotel never disappoints with its opulent decor and old world charm, along with friendly service.

Ahwahnee Hotel, Yosemite National Park, California

Located on the floor of the Yosemite Valley, this luxury destination hotel is built from native stone, wood, glass, and concrete. Opened in 1927 to accommodate visitors to the National Park, the hotel was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987. Visitors will find the one hundred fifty thousand square foot hotel, built in a Y shape to be most luxurious with ninety nine rooms, parlors, and suites that each have accents of Native American designs. Additionally there are twenty four cottages, all of which blend in harmoniously with the Yosemite Valley cliffs. Skiing and hiking are popular activities in the area. The Ahwahnee Hotel was a participant in the movie “The Shining” as parts of it were used to represent the Overlook Hotel seen in that movie.

Mohonk Mountain House, Shawangunk Ridge, New York

Near the southern border of the Catskill Mountains, Quaker twin brothers built the grand hotel on their land between 1879 and 1910. There are two hundred sixty six guest rooms which include twenty eight tower rooms, a pool and spa indoors, ice skating rink outside for use in winter months. Mohonk translates to “lake in the sky” and has been featured in an original print by Currier & Ives. The original Quaker brothers were advocates of temperance and allowed no liquor, card playing, or dancing on their premises. All that has changed however and the hotel got a liquor license in the nineteen sixties.

Visitors keep busy with horseback riding, tennis, croquet, swimming, and fishing. A full service spa, fitness center, golf, and rock climbing are all activities enjoyed by guests. Open year round, the Mohonk Mountain House has what they call a “full American plan” which includes three meals plus afternoon tea for all overnight guests.

There are many more hotels which can be considered “destinations in themselves” as they have so much to see and do they do not need outside influence and are self reliant regarding what they have to offer their visitors. While many of these influential accommodations have historic value, others are more modern in build such as the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California or the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort and Spa on the Hawaiian Island of Maui.
