Taking a Taxi in Philadelphia
Philadelphia is a large city but has an excellent public transport system. The city allows excellent driving and walking options. The taxi service is well established and offers services round the clock.
When compared with other cities, hiring a taxi in Philadelphia is pretty expensive. The fare structures are designed by the Philadelphia parking authority. This authority has been regulating transportation services in the city since 1950.
All the cabs/ taxis running in the area carry the list of fares. The general public is often asked to beware of “Gypsy Taxis”. These taxis still run in the city but are outlawed. Additionally, they charge a huge fee.
The rates specified by the organization are clear cut and leave no room for speculation. For the first one tenth of a mile the customer will be charged 2.70 USD. 0.23 USD would be charged for every subsequent one tenth of a mile. 0.23 USD will be charged for every 37.6 seconds of waiting.
Other then pulse rates, these taxis also have fixed fare for popular locations. As for example, taxis charge a fixed fare of 28.5 USD if you want to travel from city center to the airport. These taxis also charge an additional fare of 1 USD if any extra passenger is included in the journey.
Also, a minimum rate of 11 USD is defined for journeys starting from the airport. All toll taxes are to be paid by the customer. If the toll amount only covers the one way travel, then the driver has to be compensated for the return toll tax.
If you take a taxi from the airport, you are supposed to pay airport egress charges as well. Taxis or cabs in this region do not levy any sort of luggage or handling charges.
