Beechworth is located in northern Victoria and it has become a very popular destination for family holidays as there is such a range of things for the whole family to enjoy there. Regardless of the budget that you have for your family holiday, you can find Beechworth accommodation to meet your needs and have a great holiday.

Beechworth is not only a fun place for a family holiday, it also has a lot of educational attractions that can teach your kids about important aspects of Australian history. There are several historic buildings that are still standing in the town that stretch back to shortly after the town was founded. The town arose through the gold mining rush and it was a wealthy hamlet of the state, which saw important events in Australian colonial history go down.

To learn more about the Victorian gold rush era you can visit the museums around town such as the Carriage Museum and the Burke Museum. Another interesting museum is the Chinese Cultural Museum and Gardens, which explains some of the local history taking into account the contributions of the Chinese immigrant workers who came to search for gold. There are many fascinating artefacts that are on display having been found in old Chinese camps.

If you want to see history come to life, then you can visit some of the gold panning locations. There, you can try panning for alluvial gold and see how the prospectors did it back in the old days. You can also learn more about the Eureka Stockade and other important events from the gold rush era.

Another interesting point about a visit to Beechworth is that you are entering Kelly country, where the infamous Australian outlaw Ned Kelly operated. You can take a Ned Kelly walking tour around the town and have a Ned Kelly experience at Sebastopol Park.

There are loads of adventure sports and activities to get involved in too. You can try horse riding, abseiling, rock climbing tours which can be fun and challenging for the more adventurous ones in the family. The kids will love visiting the old fashioned sweet store where they can sample all kinds of classic candies and lollies.

The Beechworth Bakery is an absolute must for anyone who visits the town and your family vacation would be incomplete without at least one stop there. The bakery is owned by local character Tom O’Toole who has turned the bakery into one of Australia’s best known. It has a massive range of baked goods on sale including some excellent pies and pastries. Mums and dads will also love the devonshire teas that are served up there.

For Beechworth accommodation you will find that there is a good choice of styles, locations and prices that are available. Everyone in the family will find plenty to do and enjoy while staying in this fun and historical town. You can get to Beechworth in a few short hours from Melbourne by car and 4 and a half hours from Canberra.
