Tunisia – A Short Guide For Tourists
February 3rd, 2011 by Mark Walters, under Vacation Destinations. No Comments
It is no secret that places that become popular with tourists are popular because of trends. When famous celebrities are photographed soaking up the sun or sitting on a yacht in a particular area, that area immediately gains a massive leap in popularity and tourists flock to the latest fashionable holiday spot. The question is, why? Why do the celebrities go to that particular area? What is it about the area that draws people in to begin with?
There are many destinations that are always popular with tourists due to their ability to offer the best of one or two factors – the south of France, Spain, the Mediterranean islands and Switzerland’s mountainous ski slopes to name but a few. However, some places are popular due to their ability to combine a number of factors, plus a certain mystical appeal. Tunisia is such a place, but what is it specifically about Tunisia that makes it so special?
Tunisia’s official name is the Tunisian Republic and is situated on the northern-most tip of Africa. Algeria and Libya surround Tunisia to the west and south-east respectively. While the southern part of Tunisia is mainly comprised of the Sahara Desert, the land around the desert is extremely fertile which helps with growing crops. Tunisia is also able to provide tourists with a massive eight hundred and ten miles of coastline with which to enjoy their holiday in the sun.
As expected with such a huge coastline, Tunisia is famous for its beaches, of which the most popular are Hammamet and Port el-Kantaoui. Port el-Kantaoui was modeled on Port Grimaud, situated on the French Riviera. Also at the beach, tourists like to indulge themselves in scuba diving which is extremely popular for good reason in Tunisia. With spectacularly clear waters and some fantastic coral beds the two places to go are Port el-Kantaoui and Monastir.
One of the biggest tourist pullers in Tunisia is the fact that some of the highest grossing films of the last fifty years have been filmed there. Two Star Wars films, an Indiana Jones movie, and the English Patient were all filmed on location in Tunisia. Finding the filming locations may be a little trickier than you imagine, though there is sufficient information available on the internet to help guide you. One particular location that will not be hard to find is the Sidi Driss Star Wars Hotel in Matmata. This hotel was used as a location in the film Star Wars: A New Hope, which was filmed in 1976.

Men’s Fashion Advice : What To Pack For A Beach Vacation
December 25th, 2010 by Mark Walters, under Travel and Leisure. No Comments
For the forward thinking man who likes to have things planned well in advance, we’ve put together a little guide on a few key items you should always remember to pack when preparing for your summer vacation. First on the list is a pair of sunglasses. These are small and so easy to fit in with the rest of your luggage. Make sure to protect your eyes from both the sun and any glare by taking with you the biggest pair you can find.
So, you’ve got your sunglasses and the next thing you need to be sure to take is a selection of tees, or T-shirts. These will be great for any trips to bars and restaurants as well as protecting you from the sun on the beach if you feel the need to cover up for a while. Cotton is a good fabric for tees as it’s loose and breathable. Take a range of colors with you so you can mix and match, but be sure they don’t clash with your tan.
Another key item you should make sure to pack in your suitcase is a pair or two of board shorts. These will serve you well whether you’re spending the day chilling on the beach or if you’re off out on a day trip to do some exploring. They’re generally made out of a breathable fabric that also folds up really small, meaning they’ll fit easily into your luggage. Knee length shorts are especially trendy and they can double up as bathing shorts, helping you save room in your luggage.
You need to make sure to take a couple of pairs of shoes with you on vacation, too. Don’t go overboard or they won’t fit in your luggage! Flip flops are great for casual exploring or for lounging around on the beach, plus they’re cheap and don’t take up much space, making them a great buy. A pair of sturdy sandals is also a good idea on vacation as they’re breathable and cool but sturdy enough that you’ll be able to walk around in them if you need to.
Particularly if you have fair skin, it can be a really good idea to take a few casual long-sleeve shirts with you. These will be great for protecting your shoulders from the sun as well as for if you find yourself going out for any formal meals or events. Choose light colors that reflect the sun, such as white or pale blue, as this will ensure they keep you cool even with long sleeves. You could even wear a shirt unbuttoned for a cool, casual summer vacation look.
