A Weekend At The Wellington Hotel In New York – Is It As Good As It’s Location?

October 5th, 2010 by , under Vacation Destinations. No Comments

The Wellington Hotel New York is all about location! It’s actually a several meters from Carnegie Hall, half block to the Russian Tea Room, 1 block to Central Park, half block to David Letterman’s theatre, and a somewhat inexpensive taxi drive to wherever you need to go on Broadway. For people with more money than sense you can go for the boutiques on 57th, which include Bergdorf-Goodman, Tiffany’s and the like.

We opted for single bedroom apartment at the rear of the place, which in fact had absolutely no view, but as it has been off-street, was a smart trade-off. It was incredibly silent, with a lovely marbled bath, wonderful water pressure, a clean, peaceful apartment with bedroom, living room, and kitchenette along with refrigerator, kitchen sink, and microwave oven. Doormen and assistant desk had been helpful with maps as well as advice. Heating system was a little noisy, although it is the case in most of these old buildings. Wi-fi was ideal.

Bistro in the hotel is used by everyone in the location so it’s typically rather busy with line-ups. Move out of the hotel for two blocks or so and you should come across coffee/sandwich spots more affordable compared to cafe in the hotel. (It is helpful advice regardless of where you will be staying in New York!).

The Wellington restaurant is a dimly lit, greek type, old-fashioned affair with velvet seats, off the main entrance hall. This hotel could be difficult for the handicapped, because there are alcoves and released hallways with half floors. Steps going up or down virtually everywhere in the place. Both the cafe and also the diner are actually pricy, and so are taking advantage of the tourists. Virtually, across the street, several feet away from hotel is a Subway, various street vendors, plus a Starbucks down the street, all of which were doing a good money from the quite a few hotel customers in the region.

The hotel even had a hairsalon, well stocked put shop, room service menu, plus a Tv set both in the bedroom and the living room. There was rapid response from the reception if you had questions or difficulties with heating up or cleaning troubles. Nearly all house cleaning staff in New York hotels really don’t speak English, thus don’t anticipate too much. Unusually there is a coffee machine in the kitchen, though the receptionist explained they don’t provide coffee.. On the whole, an ideal choice for this location. I will possibly stop at the Wellington Hotel everytime I come back to New York, simply because of the price and location.
